Headphones Not Detected: The Complete Fix
Published 2026 · 3 min read
Headphones come in three connection types, and each fails differently. Match your type below.
Wired headphones
A partially inserted jack is the #1 cause — make sure it's fully in. Laptops often have separate headphone and microphone jacks, so try both. Test the headphones on another device to rule them out.
Bluetooth headphones
Forget the device and pair fresh. Low battery causes instant disconnects, and they can only connect to one device at a time — check they're not bound to your phone.
USB headphones
Unplug and try another port. Then open Sound settings and make sure the USB headphones are the selected output device — Windows often keeps the old speakers selected.
