Bluetooth Not Connecting: The Complete Fix
Published 2026 · 4 min read
Bluetooth fails in a handful of predictable ways. Most are fixed in minutes by re-pairing, recharging, or resetting the Bluetooth stack.
The device won't appear in the list
Most wireless devices leave pairing mode after about two minutes. Hold the pairing button until the light blinks fast, then look again. If it still won't show, it's likely already connected to another phone — unpair it there first, or restart both devices.
Pairing fails or drops
Delete the device from Bluetooth settings and pair fresh. Charge both devices fully — low battery is a common cause of instant disconnects. Move them close together; Bluetooth is weak through walls and beyond ~10 meters.
Bluetooth missing entirely on Windows
Open Device Manager (Win+X â Device Manager). Under Bluetooth, if there's a yellow warning icon, uninstall the device and scan for hardware changes to reinstall the driver. Download the latest driver from your PC manufacturer if that doesn't fix it.
Reset the Bluetooth stack (last resort)
On Windows: run services.msc, find Bluetooth Support Service, and restart it. On phones, toggle Airplane Mode for 30 seconds — it resets all radios at once.
